I did it, my first ever art stand!

My challenge this year was to push myself a bit further and I knew I wanted to do an art market or fayre or some sort of event. My sister then came across the Munchkins Summer Fayre on Facebook and this seemed like the perfect first event to do. Small enough that it wasn’t too daunting, but big enough that I would hopefully have a nice busy day, and it was about half an hour away so no reason not to!

The Munchkins Summer Fayre was on Sunday 6th August last week, and was held by the Munchkins Miniature Shetland Rescue (mini-munchkins.org) which is a rescue centre for Shetland ponies. In the lead up to the day, the weather had been looking rubbish all week and was set to rain, which was not promising for my first event as it was outdoors… however, Sunday rolled around and it was a lovely sunny day! A bit windy, but I couldn’t have asked for anything else.

I did learn from this slightly; if you’re doing an outdoor event, make sure to bring weights, pins, staples etc. basically anything that can hold things in place if it’s a bit gusty! I also learnt many other things from my first attempt, like better ways to displays items and prices, but most importantly I learnt that I needed to check all of my business cards! I had obviously ordered them a long time ago before I even had a website, so none of the business cards have my website on. How stupid of me!

Other than the bit of wind, and not having practised my setup previously, the day went really smoothly and was a great success! Lots of people showed an interest in my work and either took a business card or leaflet. I decided to do a raffle for my pet portraits too which had quite a few entries, I am continuing this raffle at the end of the month when I am at another event. But the highlight from my day and my best sale was a customer who decided to buy my Pastel Cow drawing! On top of this she also bought a few cards and one of my Koi Lino Prints, was very happy after this.

I even had a prime location in front of the main ring so I got to watch the pony parades and dog classes throughout the day which was great to see. Don’t think I have ever quite realised how big Great Danes and Deerhounds are until then!

Anyway, time to get to the main point of this post… THANK YOU!! Thank you to all my family who helped me get everything together in the lead up to the day. Thank you to everyone who came over to my stand, whether you just asked some questions, took a business card, entered my raffle, or even bought something. A big thank you to my sister and my mum for helping me on the day and the biggest of thank yous to my boyfriend who has been helping me and motivating me from day dot. I would not be able to do any of it without you.
